Being Hot, Summer TV, and the Movies in Our Bunker (005)
Sarah and Kim are staying indoors as much as possible since it’s summer in Texas. This week they share their summer television favorites, and the five movies they’ll grab if they have to go hide in a bunker for some reason.
Zoo is a perfect summer show. Rude animals & Billy Burke! Vox agrees: CBS’s Zoo is now a dystopian hellscape full of hybrid beasts. Zoo is now perfect.
Big Brother! CBS All Access has the live feeds, and since Sarah has a subscription, she’s trying it out this summer after not watching the show for more than a decade. (It’s mostly ridiculous, but that’s just perfect for summer!)
Another good one: The Last Ship. TNT knows drama. Spoiler alert! (Not really.) There is actually more than one ship in the show.
Kim is catching up on the Great British Bake Off. Sarah got hooked on it after seeing it tweeted about so much and then recommended it to Kim, who is now also hooked and quickly watching it all. It’s a great competition show that’s focused on the baking, not the mental anguish of the contestants (like so many American reality shows would do).
After watching so much GBBO, Sarah wants to bake but her kitchen is just an empty room right now due to a very big renovation.
Sidenote: Kim started reading her first romance novel! She started with the one Sarah recommended in episode one (and also read first a few years ago): Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean.
Kim recommends Angie Tribeca. It’s silly and light and Naked Gun-ish.
Speaking of light, fun shows, Sarah is currently catching up on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and looooves it. It’s so fun and quirky and colorful. Very joyful and great for summer and/or dark times when you need a boost.
Five Movies to Take in Your Bunker
Starts at 19:02.
The tweet that started it:
Let's say the world is ending in a matter of minutes and you can only bring five movies into a bomb shelter. What do you bring?

Kim’s bunker picks:
- Bridget Jones’s Diary
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
She accidentally had six and had to quickly cut one. She cut Hunt for the Wilderpeople, a favorite from 2016. She recommends it.
If Robert Pattinson talking about Twilight was a movie, we’d both grab a copy for our bunker.
Sarah’s bunker picks:
- Bridget Jones’s Diary
- Pride & Prejudice (2005)
- White House Down
- Ghostbusters (2016)
Sarah is really into Bridget’s look in Bridget Jones’s Baby. (Overalls and low side pony!)
‘Also have you seen London Has Fallen? It is a very good action movie, especially the big opening action sequence in London.
Sarah’s runners up: Big Business, You’ve Got Mail, and Troop Beverly Hills.
